Compare auto insurance quotes properly, and stop paying for the difference

This is an independent comparison and education site — no affiliation with any specific insurance carrier. We show what's actually being priced on a US auto policy, how to quote it like for like, and what each coverage really does.

✓ Independent — no affiliation with any specific insurer, no quotes collected here
✓ Published comparison criteria, before the table

Work it out

Work out the two numbers that decide your price

Your deductible and the true annual cost of a quote. Both take under a minute, and both run entirely in your browser.

Deductible vs premium scenario

Find the point where a cheaper premium stops being cheaper, based on how often you actually expect to claim.

Assumptions this uses
  • Both options are assumed to cover the same things — if they do not, this comparison does not hold.
  • The deductible is assumed to apply once per claim.
  • Premiums are treated as fixed for the year; a claim may change your renewal price.
  • No fees, taxes or installment charges are included.

Limitations: this does not account for how a claim affects your future premium, for differences in policy wording, or for any coverage limit other than the deductible.

Quick tip

Write your coverage spec down before you request a single quote

Decide your liability limits, deductibles and any optional coverage first, in writing. Then quote that exact specification everywhere. Any quote that doesn't match it is a different product, not a better price — this one habit prevents almost every comparison mistake on this site.

Straight answers

Auto insurance questions people actually ask

No hedging, no upsell. Where the honest answer is 'it depends', we say what it depends on.

Is this site affiliated with any auto insurance company?

No. This site has no affiliation with any insurance carrier, despite the domain name. We are an independent education and comparison resource — we do not sell insurance and no carrier pays for a position on this site.

What does 'full coverage' actually mean?

Nothing legally — it isn't a defined product. People generally use it to mean liability plus collision plus comprehensive. Because different sellers mean different things by it, ignore the phrase and check the individual coverages and their limits on the declarations page instead.

How much liability coverage should I carry?

More than your state's minimum in almost every case. Liability pays for the injuries and damage you cause to other people, and anything above your limit is your personal responsibility. Minimums in many states are far below the cost of a serious accident, and raising the limit is usually one of the cheapest changes on the policy.

Is a higher deductible worth it?

Only if you could pay it tomorrow without borrowing. Raising it lowers the premium and raises what a claim costs you. Use the deductible calculator on this site to see the point where one option overtakes the other, based on how often you expect to claim.

What is SR-22 insurance?

An SR-22 is a certificate your insurer files with your state confirming you carry the required liability coverage — it's a filing, not a separate insurance policy. It's typically required after certain driving violations, and it usually raises your premium because it signals higher risk to insurers. See the SR-22 guide for who needs one and roughly how long it typically lasts.

Does my credit really affect my car insurance?

In many US states, insurers use a credit-based insurance score as a rating factor. It is not your credit score, and several states restrict or prohibit its use entirely. Your state insurance department publishes what is permitted where you live, and that is the source to trust over any article, including this one.
